Laverne Long

1932 - 2016

Laverne Long, 92, a lifelong resident of Brewer Community, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at The Meadows. She was born October 30, 1923, to John Henry and Annie Pearl Hill Nicholson. She worked at a garment manufacturer and at North Mississippi Medical Center as a nurse's aide, but her pride was being at home and taking care of her family and cooking. Laverne enjoyed to work in her garden and crochet afghans. She was a member of Brewer Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons-in-law, John Chrestman and James Stanford; grandchildren, David Chrestman (Brigitte), Jennifer Chrestman, Jessica Quevreaux (Jason), Craig Stanford (Esmeralda), Carter Stanford (Jennifer), Susan Young and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Malcolm Long; children, Elizabeth Ann Stanford and Brenda Gail Chrestman.

Visitation will be from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016, with services at 11 a.m. at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Bro. Tim Tutor and cousin and friend, Joe Dye officiating. Burial will be in Brewer Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Long, Jim Long, David Chrestman, Robert Allen Godfrey and Joe Minga.
