I'm so sorry to hear about Michael's passing. He was one of the nicest guys I've ever met.

We were sorry to hear about the death of Michael Joe. We went to 1st United Pentecostal Church with Bro. & Sister Shamburger. Sharon was always in my Sunday School class. It is difficult to understand death at such a young age.

Mike was an integral part of our small team at AVANT. He was a very special man, with a razor sharp sense of humor who also had a sweet side. He loved animals, and enjoyed watching YouTube videos of kittens and puppies on his lunch break. He was a skilled usability tester and analyst with a natural eye for detail. He was very musical, and I liked that he would occasionally sing while he worked. He was fun to talk to and always quick to make a joke. Mike appreciated good food and friends, and could laugh at the absurdities of life. I miss him.
Team outing to Angel Island, San Francisco CA

Mike was a valuable member of my team, and someone I greatly respected. I am honored to have worked with Mike in the beginning of what I was sure would be a very exciting and accomplished career adventure. Mike was a gifted creative thinker, a dedicated designer, and an extremely detail oriented and smart man. I think he was one of the funniest people I know. His honest, dark and witty brand of humor isn't understood by a lot of people. However, I think I understood his way of relating through his humor and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the pleasure of walking through Golden Gate Park with Mike during a music festival earlier this summer. He was sick and weak, and it was hot and crowded. We stopped several times to rest on benches and we talked. He talked about his family and about how he missed them, and his desire to stay in San Francisco because he felt this was where he belonged. We had the type of conversation that involved meaningful topics but sprinkled with lots of anecdotes and humorous commentary. It was effortless; which is an awesome accomplishment of awareness and presence given the pain he was clearly in and the inconvenience of the situation for him. That wasn't the only team offsite Mike managed to contribute to. He also made it to a mini golf outing, a day trip to Angel Island (photo attached), and a few after work gatherings earlier on. His unapologetic, bold personality became a staple of our team dynamic. That is what I will miss most about Mike, and one of the characteristics I will always remember about him.
I will miss him very much and I am grateful for the time I got with Mike in the studio and otherwise.
