Oscar Shannon Obituary
He is survived by his daughter Shea and her husband Jason Scott and their sons, Robert Reed Scott and Ryan Shannon Scott. He is also survived by two step-daughters: Lauren Freeman (Chris) and Liz Bailey (Matt) and their children, Foley and Finn Freeman and Vera and Palmer Bailey; one brother-in-law, Robert H. Haralson, III; one niece, Shannon Haralson Chierichella; and two nephews, David Haralson and Robert Haralson. Also surviving is his former wife and Shea's mother, Linda Shannon.
Laron began his 40-year banking career at The Peoples Bank, where he served on the Board of Directors and as Senior Vice President/Cashier, until his retirement in 2001. He continued to serve on the board as long as health permitted.
He was an active member of the Young Bankers Association, Mississippi Bankers Association, Banking Administration Institute, and Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow). He was supportive of the 4-H Clubs, became an Eagle Scout, and continued to fund the Boy Scouts of America.
Laron was a member of the Ripley Presbyterian Church.
He is predeceased in death by his parents, his sister Anne Haralson, and his wife Rhonda Pannell Shannon.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Laron's devoted caregivers, Geanette Robinson and Tina Rogan.
Visitation will be at the Ripley Presbyterian Church on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 5-7 PM. Funeral will also be at the Ripley Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11 AM. Interment will be at Tippah Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Reed Scott, Ryan Scott, Chris Freeman, Matt Bailey, Tim Hopper, and Garry Reed. Honorary pallbearers are The Peoples Bank Board of Directors, former and active employees of The Peoples Bank, Ripley Presbyterian Church Elders, Dr. Charles M. Elliott, Fred C. Permenter, Fred Fortier, John Reid, Davy Horton, and all his golfing buddies.
