Patsy Smith Obituary
Memorial services will be held today, December 2, at 10 a.m. at Penick Village, Southern Pines, and at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Durham, N.C., at 3 p.m.
A native of north Mississippi, she was a daughter of the late Clinton and Hoyte Smith. She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women and taught in Pensacola, Fla.; Berlin, Germany; Florence, Ala.; and Durham, N.C. She attended The University of the South and was ordained as an Episcopal priest in 2001. She served at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Raleigh, N.C., and as the Chaplain at Penick Village, Southern Pines, N.C., until her retirement in 2014.
Patsy is survived by her brothers, Wendell Smith (Mae Dean) and Kirby Smith; her nephew, John Roth (Lucy); her nieces, Carla Thomas and Angie Smith; and several cousins, including Barbara Burney. She was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Roth, and her niece, Anne Roth.
Memorials may be made to Penick Village Foundation or the Society of St. John the Evangelist.

We are saddened to learn of Patsy's death. Phil & I knew her back in Germany in the 70s and have been keeping up with her since. She truly had such a giving heart and a smile that would lift anyone.

I was so sorry to hear about Patsy. We were friends when we taught in Germany. She was my Maid of Honor when Lloyd and I were married in Basil Switzerland where they married Americans on Tuesdays she was a good friend.
