William Clyce 'Bill' Strickland
BENTON COUNTY - William Clyce ""Bill"" Strickland, 72, longtime resident of the Ashland Community, retired commercial roofer and US Army Veteran, died at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis following an extended illness.
Services honoring the life of Mr. Strickland, with Military recognition, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016, in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with burial in the Ashland Cemetery.
A native of Tippah County, Mr. Strickland was the son of the late James Horace and Lillie Hopkins Strickland. He received his education in the Benton County Public School System and was well known in the area as a commercial roofer. He was first employed by John J. Campbell Roofing in Memphis and later employed for many years by the Strickland Roofing Company in Jackson, Tennessee, before his retirement six years ago. He was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Benton County and was stationed in Germany while serving as a US Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Nell Poole Strickland who died in 2002. Known by his family and friends for his sense of humor and as a ""prankster"", Mr. Strickland was a family oriented man who enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening, fishing, reading western novels and playing cards.
Visitation will continue today at The Ripley Funeral Home until service time.
He leaves his daughter, Shannen Box; his grandchildren, Nathan and Erica Box, all of Hickory Flat; his sisters, Dorothy Orman of Falkner, Melba Orman and Darlene Hartley (Jerry), both of Ashland; his brothers, Hilliard ""Paul"" (Irene) Strickland and Billy (Janice) Strickland, both of Ashland.
