Charlie was a very special person that loved in many ways, his kindness will long be remembered. After Aunt Theola passed away Charlie came to our house in Tampa and lived with us. We had some great times with him because we would all go out to Tampa Bay fishing, swimming, and picnicking. He was like an older brother that I never had being six years older than me. On one occasion he took care of a neighborhood bully that terrorized a few of us. It seems that Mother mentioned to him that Tommy was mean to younger kids and he responded by saying, "Aunt Beulah," I'll go meet this fellow and see what I can do." While I am not exactly sure what happened, I could walk the sidewalk without fear. When Tommy saw me coming he would go the other direction. Charlie always stood strong for the underdog.
He went into the Navy and wrote often to keep Mother posted as to his military experiences while on the ship. When he got out of the Navy he came back and stayed with us for a short while and told us that he would moved to Murfreesboro. His life was well lived and touched people in a way that few men seldom do. I am very grateful to have had him as a favorite cousin and friend. Crystal and I are praying for your sorrow to be turned into joy as you remember him and what he did for others while he was here. May the Lord bless you, the family he loved and cherished so much.

Chuck, Carol and Hanna,
So sorry to hear about Papa Charles. We remember fondly when Charlie would drive down to the pool to see if there was anything to eat and how excited Hanna was to see him. Charlies love for the farm and his family was very evident. His unbelievable work hours were a testament to his love for his chosen path for his life. We are blessed to have known Charlie.
Love all of you!

I met Charlie over 20 years ago and he and his brother Fred were always cordial to me. I think about how many people and places he and Fred touched in their 50+ years in our community. A little spark from South Georgia turned into a bright light in Murfreesboro. My condolences to the family. May God give you special grace, peace, and mercy in the days ahead.

Charlie and I were friends for more than 3 years and I will truly miss him, I talked with Charlie about God and his wonderful love. My heart tells me that he knew of Gods love because he read about that same love, and as a man he demonstrated that kind of love to the less fortunate. So long my friend see you later "T".
