Gary Petty Obituary
Mr. Gary Lynn Petty, age 62 of Murfreesboro, died Tuesday, July 12th, 2011.
He was a Graduate (1967) of Shelbyville Central High School, where he was a member of the CHS Band; he attended MTSU. He was an excellent dancer and musician; member and lead singer of Gary Lynn and the Playboys Band. He began his radio career as a DJ at WLIJ in Shelbyville at WMTS Radio in Murfreesboro. He was twice nominated for the CMA Country Disc Jockey of the Year, and worked for Jim Reeves Music Publishing, Tennessee Radio Network, CBS Songs, Ray Stevens Music. He worked for Bob Bomar at Shelbyville Airport where he took flying lessons. He was first to do traffic reports from the air on WMTS in Murfreesboro, and was a Independent record producer and songwriter.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Perryman Petty of Murfreesboro; two sons, Cole (Becki) Petty of Tyler, TX, Thomas Petty of Murfreesboro; his parents, Travis and June Noblitt Petty of Shelbyville, and a brother, Dr. Michael (Frances) Petty of Knoxville.
Funeral Services will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16th, at Hillcrest Funeral Home, Rev. Jack Carney officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Truman Jones, Jim Estes, Dr. Alex Hollis, Tommy Seymore, Jack Schlinke, Gary Trail. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Andy Brown and Jimmy C. Newman.
Visitation will be Saturday from 2 p.m. until time of service.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
