JOY JOAN (MINOR) MARSHALL MINNEOLA Joy Joan (Minor) Marshall, 94 died at her home in Minneola, Kansas on Saturday, March 11, 2023. She was born on July 26, 1928 in Ashland, Kansas. She was the youngest child of Violet (Demmitt) and John W. Minor, Sr. At the age of 9 she moved with the family to the farm near Bloom, Kansas. She graduated from Bloom High School and then went to beauty school in Wichita, Kansas where she learned to be a hair dresser. She married Duane E. Marshall on May 27, 1951 to this union were born; Kelley Ann, Toni Lou, and Joel Martin. Joan was a very hard working, loving farmer's wife. She worked in the school cafeteria for many years and also drove a school bus. She also worked in the kitchen at the Minneola Nursing Home for many years. Joan was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and auntie to many nieces and nephews. She helped raise 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She loved children, their home was always filled with kids and laughter. She had a lot of "adopted grandkids" they called her grandma, gram or ma. Joan accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1949. She served in the church as a Sunday School teacher, pianist and helping with VBS. She also loved to sing! Survivors include, their 3 children, Kelley Ann Monaghan, Augusta, Kansas, Toni Lou Marshall, Minneola, Kansas and Joel Martin Marshall and wife Karen, Bozeman, Montana; their 8 grandchildren, Shonda (Monaghan) Thomason and husband Scott, Warrensburg, Missouri, Andria Monaghan, Duana (Monaghan) Barker and husband Darren, Brenden Monaghan, all of Augusta, Kansas, Meeka (Hornback) Lockert and husband Chandler, Dallas Hornback, both of North Pole, Alaska, Cameron Marshall, New York City, New York and Brittany Marshall, Carlsbad, California; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Duane on November 11, 2022, sister, Arreta, and 2 brothers, Dean and J.W. Jr. Minor. Funeral Service will be on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 2:00 pm at CrossWalk Christian Church with Pastors Brad Kefauver and Suzie Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the Appleton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service Friday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the church. The family would like to acknowledge nurse, Gayla Crane and her family for all the loving care they gave to both Joan and Duane. The family greatly appreciates all of their help.
