LEO SIMON Obituary

LEO IVAN SIMON Leo Ivan Simon passed away at his home on Saturday, May 18th, 2024. He was diagnosed with Chronic Pancreatitis in 2015 but pushed through daily pain to be an integral part of his family's life. In March 2023 he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer but continued to enjoy all the adventures and travel that his family though up until, 14 months later he lost his battle. Leo was born on August 14th, 1967, the son of Dennis and Ruby (Ball) Simon. He grew up on his family farm outside of Dodge City with four siblings. He became a father to three children and in 1998 moved to Wichita, KS. On April 6th, 2002, he married the love of his life, Kimberly Wagoner in Wichita. They had two children together and in 2005 moved to Derby where they became a part of an amazing community as they raised their kids. Leo may have left the countryside, but you could never take the country out of the man. From a young age, he was a very detail-oriented person. He enjoyed tinkering on cars, carpentry, projects for family, and worked for several years in the Aircraft Industry. He was a lion; gentle, kind, and always smiling. Through life, he loved with all his heart and was the calm to everyone's storm. Some of Leo's notable quotes; "It takes less muscle to smile than it does to frown," "You can get glad in the same pants you got mad in," "First comes silly, then comes hurt," and famously; "Want in one hand and shit in the other, see which one fills up first." Survivors include his wife whom he loved unconditionally, Kimberly Simon, Derby; five children that he was extremely proud of and enjoyed seeing happy, Ashley Simon (Alisa Seaman), Big Bear, CA; Nick Simon (Daniel Morford), Derby; Kristen Clanton (Josh), Wichita; Laci Simon, Derby; and Jennifer Simon, Wichita; three grandchildren (Nick), and four siblings; Denise Simon (Doug Dumler), Dodge City; Stephen Simon (Tammie), Dodge City; Margaret Simon (Sharon Rush), Fayetteville, North Carolina; and Donita Shultz (William), Dodge City. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruby on September 17th, 2008, his father on February 26th, 2024, an infant sibling, Pauline and infant twin siblings, Andrew and Andrea. Services will be held at 2 P.M. on Saturday, June 1st at The Well Worship Center 200 W Greenway St Unit B, Derby, KS 67037 followed by dinner.
