Dec 9, 1940 - Dec 27, 2025
Leo Herbert Ziesch, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 27, 2025, at Sedgwick Plaza in Wichita, Kan. He was born Dec. 9, 1940, in Spearville, Kan., the son of Herbert and Ida (Bamberger) Ziesch.
On Sept. 3, 1961, Leo married Dorothy Sinclair at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Dodge City, Kan. To this union were born four children.
Leo graduated from Hanston High School in 1959 and attended Dodge City College before returning to the family farm south of Hanston. He was a lifetime area farmer and stockman. A born salesman, Leo also sold a wide variety of products throughout his life, including insurance, DeKalb seed, and Amsoil products.
He was a member of Hanston Mennonite Church and served his community in various capacities, including as president of the Orwell Community Association and as a trustee for Sterling Township.
Leo was a committed Christian, known for his kind, loving, and light-hearted demeanor. He loved singing old-fashioned hymns of faith and enjoyed visiting and socializing with others. During those visits, he proudly shared stories of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson.
Leo had a fondness for classic cars-especially Chevelles-and two-cylinder John Deere tractors. He also loved animals, particularly dogs and cats, and always had at least one favorite barn cat that followed him around the farm, "helping" as he worked on equipment.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Sinclair) Ziesch, of the home; three sons, Derrek (Annette) Ziesch, Wichita, Kan.; Dalen (Karen) Ziesch, Goddard, Kan.; and Lance Ziesch, Hanston, Kan.; five grandsons, Brady (Aundrea) Ziesch, Wichita, Kan.; Aaron (Rebekah) Ziesch, Wichita, Kan.; and Will, Ryan, and Sean Ziesch, all of Goddard, Kan.; and one great-grandson, Nolan Ziesch, Wichita, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Ida Ziesch; his grandparents, Sigmund and Lydia Ziesch, and Charles and Agnes Bamberger; his daughter, Lanette Ziesch; and a daughter-in-law, Jill (Parr) Ziesch.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore, Kan. A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, at Hanston Mennonite Church, Hanston, Kan., with Pastor Dennis Carter presiding. Following the service, the public is invited to attend lunch with the family at Hanston High School. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore, Kan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hanston Mennonite Heritage Foundation, in care of Beckwith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 663, Jetmore, KS 67854. Personal condolences may be left at www.beckwithfuneralhome.com.

I met Leo at Sedgwick Plaza when he needed help putting his shoes on. He was always so sweet. I enjoyed our conversations about his farm days. He introduced me to a song by Gene Watson called Farewell Party we listened to it and both had tears. This was a couple of weeks ago when we had that conversation. I´m playing this song for you Leo RIP!!
