Mark Anton Plains - Mark C. Anton, age 68, passed away Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. He was born February 1, 1953, at Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Richard and Ann (Frazier) Anton. As a young boy he attended school in Kansas City until his family moved to the family farm near Ensign KS. As he grew, he worked beside his dad and brothers farming, taking care of cattle, milking cows, and enjoying being a farm kid. He graduated from Ensign High School where he participated in football, basketball, track, FFA, choir, and band. He was also an active member of Ensign Booster 4-H Club. He earned his bachelor's degree in Bible and Christian Education from Friends Bible College in Haviland, Kansas. He played soccer and loved singing in the choir while attending college. While at Haviland, he met Nancy Jean Powell and they married on June 1, 1974 in Stafford, Kansas. They returned to the farm and later he received his elementary school teaching certificate from St. Mary's of the Plains College, Dodge City, KS. He was a teacher in Copeland, KS for a few years, before moving to Plains, KS where he taught in Kismet and Plains for twenty-seven years. He loved teaching and was a school bus driver for many years. He said he didn't like getting up at 5:00 am, especially on cold mornings, but hoped a friendly greeting to each student as they climbed on board the bus might help start their day off right. He was a member of the Plains Friends Church, serving in several capacities within the church. He enjoyed model trains, biking, antiquing and was a jack-of-all trades. Mark loved being useful to everyone, especially to his children and grandchildren, and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his wife Nancy, other survivors include three sons, Philip Anton and wife Connie of Alva, Oklahoma, Luke Anton and wife Kayte of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and Alan Anton and wife Lisa of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three brothers, Greg Anton and wife Lark of Wichita, Kansas, David Anton and wife Edwina of Montezuma, Kansas, and John Anton of Caddo Mills, Texas; a sister, Margo Sayre and husband Steve of Ensign, Kansas; a brother-in-law, Jim Powell and wife Katy; and seven grandchildren, Laura, Toby, Isaac, Ruby, Abel, Caelan, and Kiara.
