Dodge City - – Randy Gene Metzger, 67, died Friday, September 24, 2021 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas after a long hard-fought battle of cancer.
He was born on December 22, 1953 in Dodge City, Kansas the son of Benjamin and Betty (Thompson) Metzger. Randy had lived in Dodge City for 40 years moving from Winfield, Kansas. He spent his entire career within the farm implement industry. Randy not only had a love for fishing but he quite thoroughly enjoyed his cherry snow cones. He also enjoyed hunting and loved going to his grandkids sporting events and activities. Randy also liked to travel and take Renae and head to the casino!
He was a member of the Boothill Bass Club in Dodge City. He competed in countless bass tournaments throughout the Midwest.
On February 11, 1977 he married Renae Dewell at Dodge City, Kansas, she survives. Together they spent 44 wonderful years together.
Survivors also include: his son, Scott Metzger and wife Sarah, Brush, Colorado; his daughter, Cyndy Torres and husband Richard, Dodge City; 2 sisters, Karla Stranghoner, Topeka, Kansas and Judy Taylor, Chanute, Kansas; and 8 grandchildren, Austin, Zoe, Natalie, Matthew, Benson, Allysa, Zaiden and Tinley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Roger Metzger, and one sister, Janet Rinehart.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 1, 2021 at Cross Connection Church, Dodge City with Pastor Josh Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm with family present from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
