Rose Marie Mendoza
Salina - Rose Marie Mendoza passed away Thursday July 22, 2021 in Salina, Kansas. Rose was born on May 4th, 1938 to Frances and Salvador Ramirez in Dodge City, Kansas. Rose attended school in Dodge City before marrying and moving to Garden City, Kansas.
Rose married the love of her life, Louis Mendoza of Garden City, on November 19th, 1955 in Dodge City. Rose and Louis had one child, Rowena (Tina) Mendoza-Hogan.
Rose worked at St. Catherine Hospital for 41 years in the Material Management Department holding various supervisory positions within that department. Rose retired in 2003 as the Inventory Control Coordinator. While living in Garden City Rose and Louis were very active in their community, including their church St. Mary's, the fiesta committee, and the G.I. Forum. Following her retirement she and Louis moved to Salina to be closer to their daughter and granddaughter. After moving to Salina and her husband's passing Rose was very active at St. Mary's church in Salina.
Rose is survived by her only child, Rowena (Tina) Mendoza-Hogan, son-in-law Stephen Hogan, and her only grandchild, Caitlin Rose Hogan. Caitlin and Rose shared a very special and close relationship, Caitlin was Rose's pride and joy and she always lovingly called Caitlin her baby. Also surviving are 3 sisters, Victoria Shore, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Martha Cruz, Dodge City, KS, and Clara Guiterres, Wichita, KS and one brother, Bobby Ramirez, California. Rose is also survived by her sister-in-law, Lydia Gonzales, Olathe, KS and her brother-in-law, Robert Gonzales, Garden City, KS, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Louis, on April 30th, 2007, her parents, and 4 sisters and 3 brothers.
Per Rose's wishes there will be no visitation and the casket will remain closed. Face masks are not required, but encouraged as Rose was very concerned about maintaining everyone's safety and health. The Rosary will be at 10:30 am and Mass will be at 11:00 am at St. Mary's church in Garden City, KS on Tuesday July 27th, 2021. The graveside service will be at Valley View Cemetery following the Mass.
Memorials can be made to the Louis Mendoza scholarship fund or the Louis and Jane Mendoza scholarship fund, both at Garden City Community College, as well as to the Ronald McDonald House in Wichita, KS, all in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
