Bob Schmidt, passed away at his home on July 12, 2014. He was born on March 18, 1941, in Sturgeon Bay to Frank and Dora (Roberts) Schmidt. Bob graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1959, and received his bachelor's degree from St. Norbert College in 1963. On September 23, 1961, he married Mary Getzloff at St. Joseph Church in Sturgeon Bay.
Bob managed the local Sears store for 23 years and was currently the owner of Door Peninsula Sales and Storage. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Door Drifters, National Multiple Sclerosis Hall of Fame, and St. Norbert Golden Knights. He was a past member of the Sturgeon Bay Jaycees, past president of the Sturgeon Bay Winter Sports and Sturgeon Bay Business Association, past president of Corpus Christi Church School Board, Corpus Christi Church P.T.A., and the Holy Name Society. Bob and his Door County team of snowmobilers raised over one million dollars for the Wisconsin's M.S. Society. He was an avid sportsman, hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Shelly (John) Wilz, Sturgeon Bay; Robyn (Paul) Bscherer, Sturgeon Bay; Mark (Anne) Schmidt, Waupaca; Ann (Donn) Clermont, Green Bay; thirteen grandchildren, Kyle and Connor Wilz; Jake Bscherer and Leah (John) Anstett; Teresa, Anthony and Tiffany Schmidt; Krista (John) Workins; Emma, Sasha and Terry Schmidt; Austin and Nick Clermont; and a great- grandchild due in September. Mother, Dora Schmidt; sisters-in-laws, Sharon Wiesner, Vicki (Steve) Ash, Sandy Getzloff; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank; mother and father-in-law, John and Donna Getzloff.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Rev. Carl Schmitt and Rev. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be directed to the Wisconsin M.S. Society or Wisconsin Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
