Richard Halverson Obituary

Halverson, Richard Louis

Richard Louis Halverson passed away on the night of Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at the age of 84 at his home in Ephraim, Wis. He was born in Rockford, Ill., in 1929 to Louis and Ethel Halverson. Dick, as he was familiarly known, attended East High School in Rockford and also attended NIU for a time when it was still a college.

Dick served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He lived most of his adult life in Ephraim, Wis., operating 'The Turtle Studio' gift shop alongside his wife of 40 years, Janet Halverson. He loved the beauty of the peninsula and the community in which he lived. He was an avid reader enjoying topics including aircraft, race cars, nature, wildlife, astronomy, art and photography.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Halverson, Ephraim, Wis.; son, Mark Halverson (Nancy), Rockford, Ill.; grandson, Rich Halverson and great-grandson, Ayden Halverson, both of Butte, Mont.; daughter, Sue McDaniel (Craig), Colorado Springs, Colo.; and grandchildren Graham, Christie and Ryan McDaniel, Colorado Springs, Colo. He is preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn H. Van Den Bos, formerly of Littleton, Colo.

Dick (Dad) will be greatly missed by those of us who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.

Family gravside services were held at the Ephraim Moravian Cemetery.

For many years, our Summers in DC always included several stops at the Turtle. It was one of our favorite shops, and I always enjoyed talking to Dick about cars. Most pleasant man. Always had time for his customers.
