Adele McClellan Obituary

Adele Elizabeth Sutherland McClellan of Miramar Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at Destin Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. She was 88.

Memorial service plans will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor Dell's memory may make a donation to PEO Chapter W, "Educational Loan Fund." Furthering the education of women was of great importance to Dell, as evidenced by her membership of 50 years in the PEO Sisterhood. Donations may be mailed to: PEO Chapter W, c/o Ms. Lenore Hilbert, 1110 Hillbrook Drive, Dothan, AL 36303-1900, or to the charity of your choice.

Dell, as she was called by her family and friends, was born in Charlotte, N.C., on March 5, 1918, to the late Louis Duncanson Sutherland and Adele Rebecca Henderson Sutherland, both of Charlotte. She was a 1939 graduate of Queens College in Charlotte, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Dell was a longstanding member of Chapter "G" of the PEO Sisterhood in Atlanta and was instrumental in the formation of Chapter "W" in Dothan. She held a Life Master duplicate bridge designation with the ACBA.

She was predeceased in August 2000 by her late husband of 62 years, Howard Robert "Bob" McClellan.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Carol Sutherland McClellan Ohlweiler and her husband, Thomas H. Ohlweiler Jr. of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and her son, Michael Louis McClellan and his wife, Dawn Diane Brodnax McClellan of Miramar Beach; two grandchildren, Mrs. Caroline Ashley McClellan Teems (Michael David Teems Jr.) and Michael Louis McClellan Jr., both of Atlanta; and one great-granddaughter, Grace McClellan Teems of Atlanta.

National Cremation Society in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., (850) 863-3006, is in charge of arrangements. Sign the guestbook at www.dothaneagle.com.
