Agnes McDuffie Obituary

Mrs. Agnes Redd McDuffie departed this life Monday, March 6, 2006, at her home in Samson. She was 88.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 9, in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson with the Rev. Sam Totten officiating. Burial will follow in Travelers Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 8.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Samson Building Fund, 8 Main St., Samson, AL 36477, or to Wiregrass Hospice, 557 Glover Ave., Enterprise, AL 36330.

Mrs. McDuffie was born Dec. 12, 1917, at Mt. Pleasant in Coffee County to the late John Henry and Eva Thompson Redd. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Samson, a member of the Samson Garden Club, and the Samson Study Club. She had lived in Samson since 1938 except for a few years during World War II.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Faye Marie McDuffie; and her sisters, Bonnie Boone, Lucille Moseley, Johnnie Presley and Wynell Thames.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Alton McDuffie, her children, Buddy McDuffie, Ann and Dick Cannon, Terry and Shirley McDuffie; one sister, Foye and Ray Chapman; her grandchildren, Faye and Frank Pettebone, Jennifer and Dean Kunz, Rick and Becka Cannon, Stan and Ashley McDuffie, and Ross McDuffie; five great-grandchildren, Connor and Madison Pettebone, Carter and Katie Kunz, and Richard E. Cannon III; her sisters-in-law, Nora Wilson, Marie and Leslie Dean, and Eddie Mae and Benton Owens; many special nephews and nieces.

Pittman Funeral Home in Samson, (334) 898-7141, is in charge of arrangements.

I am so sorry to learn of Mrs. Agness passing. She was such a wonderful and kind person. A great neighbor to my sister (Joe Bryan) and always made special time for me when I visited back to Alabama. She will be missed greatly.
