Beverly Magee Mayfield, age 66 of Slocomb, Alabama, passed away peacefully the morning of June 23, 2018 in her home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 11 am in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Todd Baucum of First Presbyterian Church of Enterprise, Alabama officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10-11 am prior to the service. Beverly was born on February 15, 1952 in Jackson, MS and was the eldest of five children born to Archie and Bernice Magee. From an early age, Beverly cultivated a love for flowers, gardening, music, art, sewing and cooking. After graduating from Wingfield High School, Beverly attended the University of Southern Mississippi where she earned a B.F. A. degree in Studio Art and Art Education. Upon graduation she married Ransom "Randy" L. Mayfield Jr., husband of 44 years, and had three children, Ransom III, Brandon, and Marissa. Beverly taught art for many years in Virginia, Hawaii, and Mississippi, and enjoyed sharing her passion with students of all ages K-12. She was passionate about literacy and education, working behind the scenes to improve curriculums while actively advocating for politicians, school board members and officials who would enforce better education policies. Her primary occupation was homemaker and artist of oil landscapes and floral watercolors. She loved her family fiercely and found great joy and satisfaction in caring for them. Beverly is preceded in death by parents, Archie and Bernice Magee. Survivors include husband Randy; children Ransom (Susie), Brandon (Amber), and Marissa Mayfield; three granddaughters; siblings Stanley Magee, Randy Magee, Sheila Holifield (Allen), and Jeff Magee.
