Bobby Culp Obituary

Bobby Neil Culp, a resident of Abbeville, died Thursday night, Oct. 11, 2007, in the Capital Health Care Center in Tallahassee, Fla. He was 68.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct, 13, 2007, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with the Revs. Don Adams and Ray S. Reiley officiating. Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary in Abbeville.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 1545 Raymond Diehl Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
Mr. Culp was born in the Oakey Grove community of Henry County, son of the late Gordon Tollie Culp Jr. and Mavis Messer Culp. He moved to Abbeville in 1947 where he lived most of his adult lifetime. Mr. Culp was a member of the Oakey Grove Baptist Church. He was formerly employed by U.S. Civil Service with the Alabama Army National Guard in Dothan as a mechanic and also retired from the Alabama Army National Guard Unit Headquarters 1203rd Engineers with the rank of Sergeant First Class. An avid musician, Mr. Culp was a former member of Jerry Skeen and the Starlighters Band where he was a vocalist and guitar player and was also a former member of several other bands in the Wiregrass area. He was preceded in death by a son, Randall Gordon Culp, and a brother-in-law, Herb A. Abbott.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Robby Culp and Ricky Culp, both of Abbeville, and John W. Culp of Georgia; a sister, Carole Culp Abbott, Tallahassee, Fla.; a special family friend, Brenda Martin Culp, Abbeville; aunts and uncles, Mary Taylor, a resident of Westside Terrace, Dothan, formerly of the Oakey Grove community, Frances and Calvin Messer, Enterprise, Joyce and Vincent DeCerbo, Woodstock, Va.; a great-aunt, Nina McClenny Leonard, Lynn Haven, Fla.; a great-uncle, Norman McClenny; several cousins.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Kenneth Carr, David Taylor, Garland Daughtry, Thagard Lindsay, Larry Stokes, Dan Mizell and Millard Smith.
Holman-Abbeville Mortuary, (334) 585-5261, is in charge of arrangements.
