He was preceded in death by his father, James R. Phipps; mother, Tommie E. Adams; brother, Robert R. Phipps; and sister, H. Juanita Bessinger.
He is survived by his wonderful wife, Marian E. Mitchell Phipps and their 15 children, Charles E. and Cathy Phipps of Dothan, Thomas Clifford Phipps of Ozark, Becky and Hayes Godwin of Ozark, Catherine and Luck Dippold of Ozark, Linda and Mark Magnusson of Lakeland, Fla., Deborah and Doug Blackman of Ozark, Diane and Ron Shipley of Rineyville, Ky., Nancy and Joe Darley of Ozark, Tim and Monique Phipps of Ozark, Mary and Mike Bellamy of Guthrie, Okla., Dotty and Charles Jordan of Guthrie, Okla., Dotty and Charles Jordan of Wahoo, Neb., Lori and Ray Mobley of Ozark, John and Candy Phipps of Ozark, Michele and Arnie Schnobrich of Fayetteville, N.C., and Frank and Debbie Phipps of Ozark. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mary Ruth Dixon of Dothan and Maxine Hall of Columbus, Ga. He has 75 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in which he served diligently. He was a veteran of World War II in which he served 18 months on the front line. He was a master wood crafter and chairman of the board of Phipps Cabinets Inc. He liked to make people laugh, and he never met a stranger. He was patriarch of a very large family in which he took great pride in. We all love him and will always strive to live by the example he set.
His final wish was fulfilled with all his children gathered around him during his passing.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Ozark Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Mixon School Road in Ozark. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.
