Elaine Maier Obituary

Elaine Osburn Maier entered into eternal peace with our Lord on Sept. 28, 2018 after a short illness in Newport, WA. She was a long time resident of Enterprise, AL and moved to Newport to be with her daughter Rebecca 3 years ago. Born in Jackson, MI on Aug. 12, 1932 to John Osburn of Salem, OR and Opal Denton Osburn of Bardstown, KY, she graduated from Central High School, Grand Rapids, MI in 1951. While attending the University of KY she met and married Francis Brown McKee of Lawrenceburg, KY in 1953. Brown was a MIT engineer like his father, Rear Admiral Andrew I. McKee, who served in WW I & II and was the architect of the USS Nautillus, the first nuclear submarine. In 1986 Elaine married Donald C. Maier of Enterprise, AL. He was a WW II B 52 pilot and Air Force veteran. Elaine and Don delighted in exploring the Wiregrass area with Don singing in a barbershop quartet. They loved touring in their RV, visiting all 50 states. Don passed away in 2011 in Enterprise. Elaine's best friend, Dawn Johnson, also of Enterprise. Introduced her to the Red Hat sisterhood. Elaine's life was changed forever and their group had many memorable outings and adventures. Elaine loved culture, fine dining, Alabama football and most of all, people. Her infectious laughter and free spirit will be missed by all. Elaine is survived by 3 daughters: Rebecca McKee McCaffrey of Newport, WA, Inge McKee Mijinke of Langley, Canada and Cynthia McKee Tennyson of Norwich, CT; 3 sons-in-law, 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Elaine invited her family to a living memorial celebration in lieu of a funeral on July 27. A memorial service was held for her friends in Newport, WA. Sherman-Campbell Funeral & Cremation Services of Newport, WA is in charge of arrangements. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guest book at shermancampbell.com.
