Dr. Eugene H. Giles

Dr Eugene H. Giles, 88, of Blakely, Ga., passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 6, 1936 in Clay County, Ga., to the late John Hixon Giles and Maebelle Everson Giles. He was preceded in death by siblings, Joyce Corbitt, Jimmy Giles, and special friend, Richard Pettigrew.

Dr. Giles was a graduate of Clay County High School, Class of 1955, and soon joined the Merchant Marines serving until his honorable discharge in 1957. He then returned home to attended South Georgia College for a while until continuing his education at University of Georgia, where he graduated in 1959 with a degree in Chemistry. Dr. Giles applied and was accepted into The Medical College of Georgia, graduating in 1964 and beginning his lifelong career as a General Practitioner Physician, opening Blakely Immediate Care where he served our local community for many years. Dr. Giles also served the State of Georgia as a Medical Examiner for many years.

Serving the people of his community was a passion of Dr. Giles, he served on the Bank of Early Board of Directors, Blakely City Council, and a lifetime member of the FFA alumni association. Dr. Giles had a love for children, he still serves as a sustaining member of the Georgia Sheriffs Boys Ranch, and supports Shriners Hospital for Children, serving as a member of the Shriners Royal Order of Jesters.

Many folks will remember Dr. Giles for his love of music, he played many stringed instruments with lots of the local musicians, and having learned to play these instruments by "ear."

Dr. Giles leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Barton Giles; children, Greg Giles, and Alicia Moree (Aubrey); grandchildren, Josh Moree and fiance' Mary Reynolds, Giles Moree (Allie), Kasey Giles (Grant Bruner), Cody Giles, and Payton Moree; great-grandchildren, Davis Moree, Mason Moree, JT Moree and Sadie Ruth Moree; sister-in-law, Beth Giles, several nieces and nephews, and special friend, Louise Pettigrew.

Funeral Services and a Celebration of Dr. Giles life was held graveside, Monday, January 29, 2024, at 11:00 am at the family plot at Blakely Cemetery. With his dear friend, the Rev Slade Alday officiating. The family also reflected on family memories. The family received friends at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home on Sunday, 3:00-5:00 PM. Pallbearers, Josh Moree, Giles Moree, Cody Giles, Matt Moree, James Moree, Tony Storey, Bart Spikes and Bo Henry. Honorary Pallbearers, Robert Collier, Jule Talley, Sam Clinkscales, Alan Moree.

In Lieu of Flowers, the family request memorials be made in Dr. Eugene H Giles honor to The Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr. Tampa, FL 33607 or First Baptist Church of Blakely, 790 S Church Street, Blakely, GA 39823.
