George Carter Obituary

George William Carter, formerly of Troy, died after an extended illness at his daughter and son-in-law's home in Headland on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005. He was 82.

Funeral service will be at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Troy on Friday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. John Whitrock and James Underwood officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Goshen. Visitation will be at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m.

The family request that memorials be made to Covenant Hospice, 2855 Ross Clark Circle, Suite 110, Dothan, AL 36301.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Asa Melton Carter and Ethel Skinner Carter; wife, Nanette Gibson Carter; sister, Nell Armstrong; brothers, Seaborn Carter and Melton Carter.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Bobby Southerland of Headland; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Cindy Carter of Mobile; grandchildren, Daniel and Tiffany Southerland of Pinckard, Nathan Southerland of Headland, Amanda, Drew and Jacob Carter all of Mobile; great-granddaughter, Katie Southerland of Pinckard; sisters, Sarah Jones of Birmingham, Annie Laura Shaver of Goshen; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Alyce and J.R. Sanders of Goshen; sister-in-law, Betty Carter of Troy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Covenant Hospice employees.

Dillard Funeral Home of Troy, (334) 566-1720, is in charge of arrangements.

Rebecca, I did not know your father but I can sympathize & empathize with you, as I lost my elderly father at home last year following a lengthy illness. My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family.
