Janet Mynard Obituary

Mrs. Janet Carol Wright Mynard died peacefully in Pensacola, Florida on December 24, 2019 at the age of 65 and was greeted into the loving embrace and presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Janet is survived by her husband, Jimmy Mynard; son, Ryan Mynard; daughter Blake Sparks; daughter-in-law, Rusti Mynard; grandchildren, Brent Mynard, Halle Mynard, and Cecilia Sparks; her devoted best friend of over 40 years, Donna Roberts; and siblings, Angelyn Gantt (Jimmy) and Marty Wright (Sherry) and sister-in-law, Rosemary Wright. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Eunice Wright and her brother, Robert Wright. Janet was born on January 6, 1954 in Hartford, Alabama. She excelled at academics. She was salutatorian of the 1972 graduating class of Geneva County High School. She was a summa cum laude graduate of Troy State University in 1977 with a degree in Elementary Education. She received a Master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of West Florida in 1983, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. She received special recognition for having the highest GPA in her Master's program. Janet and Jimmy moved their family to Crestview, Florida in December, 1977. She began working for the Okaloosa County School system in 1978, first at Southside Elementary (1978 to 1985) as a fourth grade teacher and then at Bob Sikes Elementary (1985 to 2015) as a fourth and fifth grade teacher. She had the privilege of touching many students' and teachers' lives in her 37 years of teaching. She also greatly enjoyed mentoring new teachers. Janet's children and grandchildren remember her as a kind and gentle mother and grandmother who encouraged them to push through all circumstances and pursue their goals. Having grown up on a farm, she carried the strength and life lessons she acquired throughout her whole life. Janet was accomplished at gardening and often helped friends and relatives with their own landscaping. Janet became a Believer as a child at Shiloh Baptist Church in Hartford, Alabama. She has been a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church since moving to Crestview. A time of visitation is scheduled for Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Crestview, Florida with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. All family, friends, former co-workers and students are welcome to attend and celebrate Janet's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First United Methodist Church of Crestview, Florida and/or Bob Sikes Elementary. The family would like to thank Donna Roberts for her care of Janet as she battled cancer for the past two and a half years and the doctors, nurses, and staff at UAB and Sacred Heart.
