Jeffrey Isbell Obituary

Jeffrey Arnold Isbell was embraced by our Lord on Feb. 10, 2009, at the young age of 33.
Born April 9, 1975, he was the youngest of three children. Although born in Frankfort, Mich., Jeff lived most of his life in Dothan. He attended and graduated from Dothan High School in 1995.
Soon after graduation Jeff married his childhood sweetheart, Brandi, and together they became a family with daughters, Erin, Sara and Kate. Jeff always honored his mother, Virginia, and stepdad, Grady, with goodness and kindness. He was thankful for his brothers, Chris and Rob and their families. Jeff's family circle held no boundaries as he shared his life with his mother-in-law, Marie, father-in-law, David, and brothers and sisters-in-law. Jeff's love for his family was totally unconditional and he made sure that every family member was taken care of even if it meant he had to sacrifice something important to himself. For those who did not get to see this side of Jeff, they missed out on knowing a great man. Jeff truly filled all of our lives with the sweet feelings of happiness and joy.
For several years Jeff served his community as a firefighter in Ozark, and for the past two years he served with the Enterprise Firefighters. During his time as a firefighter, those with whom he worked, and especially those lucky enough to be in his company, knew he would stand by them in challenging times and always be a trusted friend.
Speaking of friends, there are so many: lifelong buddies, musicians, newfound acquaintances. Jeff touched them all with kindness and was always ready to help. Jeff never wanted to be acknowledged for anything he did. When he helped…he simply helped. One of his dearest friends wrote, "The world lost a great soul last night. He was and always will be a mountain of inspiration for me in the ways of music, art, humor, good will and, above all, character."
For all of us that knew him, he was gifted, unique and endearing. We were all privileged and blessed to be loved by him and to be able to give him our love. The Lord called him home much sooner than expected, but for the short time he was ours, we will always be grateful. We will love him and miss him always but most importantly, he will be in our hearts forever.
"I will lend you, for a little time, A child of mine, He said. For you to love the while he lives, And mourn for when he's dead. It may be six or seven years, Or thirty-two or three. But will you, till I call him back, Take care of him for Me? He'll bring his charms to gladden you, And should his stay be brief. You'll have his lovely memories, As solace for your grief. I cannot promise he will stay, Since all from earth return. But there are lessons taught down there, I want this child to learn. I've looked the wide world over, In search for teachers true. And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have selected you. Now will you give him all your love, Nor think the labor vain. Nor hate me when I come To take him home again? I fancied that I heard them say, 'Dear Lord, Thy will be done!' For all the joys Thy child shall bring, The risk of grief we'll run. We'll shelter him with tenderness, We'll love him while we may, And for the happiness we've known, Forever grateful stay. But should the angels call for him, Much sooner than we've planned. We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, And try to understand." - Edgar Albert Guest
Our beloved Jeff was preceded in death by Surrader Arnold and Helen Isbell, grandfather and stepgrandmother; Dorothy Virginia Owen, grandmother.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Brandi Faison Isbell; his daughters, Erin Maria, Sara Ashleigh and Kate Emelia; his mother, Virginia Isbell Creel and stepfather, Grady E. Creel; brothers, Christopher Gokey and Robert Gokey; his mother-in-law, Marie Capps and father-in-law, David Capps; nieces and nephews, Katie Ann Gokey, Devin Gokey, Joshua Gokey and Miranda Gokey; uncles and aunts, Curtis and Peggy Isbell of Orange Beach, Fla., Tom and Diane Isbell of Montgomery and Charles Owen of Florida; numerous extended family members, brothers and sister-in-laws, cousins and cousins-in-law.
A memorial service will be held in Jeff's honor at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eric Bates officiating. Following the memorial service, the family will be gathered at the home of Jeff's parents, 300 Drake Drive, Dothan.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Your husband, and father was so kind. He saw me outside struggling with cutting hedges back and he said "I have a saw "and he went and got it, gave it to me and also told me how to tackle it. I thought that was so kind of him to do that. Just seeing him in the yard with the girls I knew he really loved them by their laughter. May God strengthen you and yours is our prayer

What a legacy Jeff has left at such a young age. He made such a impact on everyone he met. I can remember so vividly Jeff and Chris hanging out at our house in their younger years, skate boarding, playing guitar, and playing in the DHS band together. In later years running into Jeff and Brandi as a grown man with his family. He always went out of his way to speak and follow up with where and what Chris was doing with his life. We were very proud of him. It has been hard for me to find the words to offer you at this time. I know he is with JESUS playing his guitar and Singing in the HOLY BAND! Please know that our hearts and prayers are with you during this time of sorrow. May God's peace, grace and comfort carry you during the days that lay ahead. And, know you will see Jeff again in Holy Garments. Jeff will be waiting for you at the Pearly Gates at the appointed time. God Bless you all. It was an honor and a privilege to know your loved one.

Jeff, I know the girls are going to be ok! But... Well you know, its gonna be hard!! We know that you are watching over us and will continue to do this until we meet again!

I think of you often
and make no outward show,
But what it means to lose you,
no one will ever know
You wished no one farewell,
not even said good-bye,
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.
You are not forgotten
nor will you ever be,
As long as life and memories last,
I will remember thee.
To some you may be forgotten,
to others a part of the past,
But to me who loved you dearly,
your memories will always last.
Nothing can be more beautiful
than the memories I have of you.
To me, you were someone special,
God must have thought so too!
If tears could build a staircase
and memories a lane,
I would walk all the way to Heaven,
and bring you back again!!

WE MISS AND LOVE YOU!

To the Isbell family. I knew Jeff briefly as a worked with him at Ozark. He was a trooper, always had a smile, and would speak every time he say you. That says a lot for his parents and the people he kept in his company. He was and is a fine man and surely he will be missed by all. May gods hand guide and comfort you in your time of sorrow. our sinceriest condolances.

Brandi and family,
We were so blessed to know Jeff these past few years. His support after my father passed in July was wonderful. As you probably know, my father and mother came to love all of you as family members. Jeff will never be forgotten by us and his caring was so appreciated. My mother knew she could call on him for anything and he'd always be there for her. His loving spirit will be with us always.

Brandi and Virginia,
I wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.I find the following quote from Abraham Lincoln to be comforting and maybe you will too.
Sorrow comes to all....Perfect relief is not possible, except with time. You cannot realize that you will ever feel better...and yet..you are sure to be happy again.

These words just cannot express what We feel in loosing Jeff.
I know he had a Dream-He fulfilled more in his short life time than many men twice his age. He deeply loved his family. He had great passion to serve as a firefighter and he did it with humility. As a musician, Jeff did it with ease. He wrote from his heart and played from his soul-Many times capturing the simple wonder of life.
You did good, Jeff...and your Dream goes on in Erin, Sarah and Kate. We will miss you so very much.
Virginia-He loved his mom so very much. Brandi and family-please call on us, you know we will be there.

Brandi and Family-

Our deepest sympathy goes out to you. Jeff will truly be missed. I have such fond memories of him from high school that I will always cherished. He was a great guy that I enjoyed being around. He loved you and the girls dearly and that always shined through. I know we will see him again but until then we have to hold on to all the great memories he left us with. If I can do anything for you, please don't hesitate to call.

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Jeff I'm gonna miss you!!! You were great with the girls & A great cousin! You always had time to listen and make time for something you didn't want to listen to! I'll be seeing one day, But until then... I Love & Miss You!

My prayers are with the family during this trying time. I went to school with Jeff & even got the pleasure of spending time with him outside of school during his skateboarding days. You will be truly missed but never forgotten. To be absent from the body is to be in God's prescence.
