John Knowles passed away on July 20, 2016 at the age of 79. In the game of life 50-yard line seats did not interest John, he came to play-and play he did. Whether it was in the dove field, big game hunts in Africa, or his passion in the courtroom. Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Geneva, with the Rev. Joe Lisenby and Rev. Jake Brady with Warren Holloway Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Warren Holloway Ward funeral home of Geneva, from 6 p.m until 8 p.m.. John was born August 31, 1936 in Samson, Alabama to the late J.W. and Francis Hildreth Knowles. He graduated with the Enterprise High Class of 1954. Then he served our Country in the United States Air Force for 4 years. His service allowed him to fulfill his lifelong dream of attending The University of Alabama where he graduated with the school of law in 1963. John pursued his dream of being a lawyer for 48 years in Geneva, Alabama, where he served as Geneva City's attorney for 34 years as well as attorney for Samson, Coffee Springs and the Geneva County Commission. John was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Nancy Knowles Stanley (Norman), two brothers: Frank Knowles and Jim Knowles. John is survived by his wife, Ann C. Knowles, Geneva, AL; two daughters: Beth Knowles Brinley (Chuck) of Geneva, and Kris Knowles Patterson (Clay) of Tupelo, MS; stepson: Drew Owens of Geneva; six grandchildren: Ashton Brinley, Geneva, Kaci Crawford, Oxford, MS, Kara Crawford of Tuscaloosa, AL, Chip and Chase Patterson, Tupelo, MS, and Dylan Cunard of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; sister: Myrtle Day, Geneva; nieces: Lenora Stanley and Norma Stanley Healey (Bill); nephew: Lee Knowles (Jane).
