Lorene Sharp Obituary
Mrs. Lorene Sharp, a resident of Dothan, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan. She was 84.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Adolph Phares officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. today.
Mrs. Sharp was born in Decatur, and was one of 14 children. Her husband, the Rev. Richard Sharp, served as pastor of Baptist churches in Columbiana, Clanton, Tuscaloosa, Dothan, Birmingham, Decatur, and Columbia. Mrs. Sharp was a faithful member of each, serving as church secretary in several and she was a devoted pastor's wife. She found great joy in teaching Sunday school, working in the missionary women's unions, and being involved in every aspect of church life. Mrs. Sharp was a member of Cloverdale Baptist Church in Dothan.
Mrs. Sharp's greatest joy was her family. Along with her husband of 65 years, she showed and taught love, patience, forgiveness, and respect to her three children, eight grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Richard L. Sharp; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Jimmy Williams, of Tuscaloosa; daughter, Gail Helms, of Macon, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Vicky Sharp, of Dothan; grandchildren, Rhonda Goins (Bubba), Laura Ryan (Dave), Jason Sharp (Amy), Andrew Sharp (Jaime), Shane Helms, Doug Helms (Susie), Todd Helms, Jo Helms (Tara), Ryan Hendrix, Rachel Hendrix, and Rhett Hendrix (Hillary Rose); great-grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Goins, Reid, Jackson and Carson Ryan, Bauer, Anna Ryan and Tyler Sharp, Andi Sharp, Leighann, Amber, Coty, Nichole, Caleb, Austin, Kaylee, Hunter, Anisley, and Jarredd Helms; and a special friend, Sandy Davis.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bubba Goins, Dave Ryan, Jason Sharp, Andrew Sharp, Brian Gamble, and Jerry Knowles.

Brother Sharp and Family,
We are so sorry to hear of the home-going of your dear Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. She was such a special lady that knew how to make everyone feel comfortable in her presence. Her faithfulness to our Lord, Brother Sharp, and her family was an example of what love really is. When we were at Hilldale with Brother and Mrs. Sharp, they took this young preacher boy and family under their wings and taught us so much. Heaven is a richer place because of her presence there, but for us, we will miss her greatly. May God be with you and love on you with His grace and tender-care. We Love You and are Praying for You!

Dr. Sharp and family,
We are so saddened to hear about Mrs. Lorene, but I know that she is rejoicing with her Lord. You two were very special to us at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church. I remember how you two were always there in great times of need such as Kaleb and Matthew's birth and even coming back from your vacation from the beach for Daddy's heart surgery. You two always went beyond a "pastor's calling." We love you very much and will be in touch with you a little later. (We are in New York/New Jersey visiting Daniel's bother.) We love you very much.
