Dear Susan and Austin,

My deepest sympathy prayers to you and your family. Chip was so helpful when I was apprenticing to be a swim official. Eventhough I only got to know him on swim decks, but the more I got to know him, I realized how good of a person he was. He was much more grand than that however. He was a man of conviction and so devoted to his community. He inspires me to be better. Chip will truly be missed on pool decks... I will celebrate his legacy - I will celebrate Chip.

St. Francis of Assisi taught us to preach the Gospel at all times and when necassary use words. Chip never really talked that much about his Faith with me. But, we could all see his tireless, selfless dedication to serving his fellow man. Whether it was swimming, downtown, or taekwondo, you could clearly see that he walked with the light of Christ.

We were blessed to have him as a friend.

Dear Susan and Austin,
As your neighbor, I wish I had interacted more with Chip. He was a very fine fellow. Whenever we had a chance to talk, he was always cheerful, never in a hurry. We'd stop on the street and talk about anything from my Welsh corgis and your dog "Bear" to Chip's highly informed assessment of global economics. I always enjoyed receiving his emails sharing his illustrations of political satire. I told him he'd missed his calling, that he needed an agent and should get syndicated. I remember being out of town years ago while a storm came. My elderly dad, stubborn fellow, was out in the yard with an axe chopping limbs. Chip saw him and came over with a chain saw, cut the limbs and hauled them to the street for my dad. Yes, your husband,Susan, and your dad, Austin, was a very fine man, indeed. The best. He was a winner in life. The best of us always seem to go early, back to Heaven. I think God puts them on earth briefly to show the rest of us how good we could be, set an example for us, teach us how God wants us to live. I believe Chip George taught an awful lot of people the way.

We have never been to Dothan and have never met the family of George Roy. Despite that we know them well. Our son, Henrich, spent a year with them as an exchange student. He has only good memories. Chip was a great man, always ready to help and guide. If it was not for his help, our son would have been struggling during his stay in the United States. Henrich has incredible memories that will always stay with him. For this, our family is forever indebted to Chip’s family.
Our condolences to You. We are very sorry for unexpected loss of Your husband, father, son, uncle, friend...
We pray for You and feel Your loss. We pray for Austin and Susan so they can overcome this terrible sorrow.

Our family counts ourselves blessed to have known Chip for many years. If I had to pick a word to describe him, it would be passionate. He was passionate about his work, about revitalizing downtown, about coaching the kids on the swim team, and most of all, he was passionate about his family. Susan and Austin, you are in our thoughts and prayers every day. We love you!

Dear Susan, Austin and the George and Park families...there are no words to express our sadness. This has been a terrible year of losses, but one so unexpected and tragic is hard to comprehend. I believe that God has a plan for everyone...and we don't get to know yet what that plan is. We can perhaps take comfort in the fact that God needed Chip more than we did. Our thoughts and prayers are with Susan, Austin and all of the George and Park family members.

"Happy moments, praise God;
Difficult moments, seek God;
Quiet moments, worship God;
Painful moments, trust God;
Every moment, thank God"

This is a quote that Chip had at the bottom of one of his political emails that he sent out on Sept 15th. I thought it might comfort many of you that are so devastated from the loss of our friend, leader and advocate of progress for our community to hear some words from him. Thank you Susan and Austin for sharing him with us! He was such a positive role model to both of my children and we will forever remember his influence in our lives. I pray that God will wrap His arms around both of you and soon the broken-bone like pain in your heart will be replaced by all the wonderful family memories you have together. We love you!
