He is survived by his mother & stepfather, Melanie Collins Thomas and Mehdi Thomas of Buford, GA; father and stepmother, Terry Dewayne and Anita Kirkland of Cottonwood; brothers, Matthew Eakin, Valdosta, GA, Joshua Kirkland of Marietta, GA, and Reid Kirkland of Cottonwood; maternal grandparents, William and Linda Collins of Whigham, GA; and his special little nephew, William Hunter Eakin of Valdosta, GA. I met TJ through my brother Joe and I remember all of us acting up and just having fun as kids and teenagers. He was a bright young man and always kept everybody around him smiling. He was so kind hearted and kind spirited. He will truly be missed. All I can think is that he is up in heaven with my brother Joe and they are enjoying being back together and just waiting on all of us to join them. My thoughts and prayers go out to TJ's family and friends.

I met Terry a few years ago when I moved from the New York/New Jersey area to Atlanta. He had an easy way of making people laugh and was always a great friend. people like T are are hard to come by. There are many of us here in Atlanta that just found out the news of this horrible tragedy this week. We are saddened by the fact that we could not be there to express our condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Terry's family and friends. We may not have met you all but T spoke of his family all the time. Words can't express enough how we feel.

Terry Kirkland...words can't even express how genuine and kind hearted he was. Humans like Terry are only a few, and I can say I was lucky enough to have met someone as original as he was. In life we come across losses of good people and we're left with memories.....good memories that remind us of how missed they are going to be. Hold on to those memories and keep him alive through them...he's in heaven, safely, peace, and sound. My condolences to the fam....sincerely "paula"...sister of Jackie Norcross, Ga

I was TJ's babysitter in Bainbridge. He was full of spunk and suprises. He and my son Stuart were partners in mischief...got into everything they could think of. They tormented his brother Matt, and I can still hear TJ giggling and snickering about it today. He was a delightful little boy and I loved him like he was my own.
I just learned of this today and I wanted to tell Sissy,Terry and Anita that I am so sorry for your loss.
I will keep you in my prayers.
