Thelma King Obituary

Thelma Irene King of 1755 Columbia Hwy. went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Cowarts Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Roberts and the Rev. Henry Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. The family will be receiving friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home (Dothan). At other times, the family will be at the residence of a granddaughter, Michelle Johns, 107 Lawrenceburg Court, Dothan.

Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Cowarts Baptist Church, Family Life Center, Drawer 10, Cowarts, AL 36321.

Mrs. King was born in Houston County. She was the daughter of Warren Mercer and Jennie McNeal Mercer. She enjoyed gardening and sewing and was a homemaker in this area all of her life. She was a member of Cowarts Baptist Church. She was the beloved wife of 63 years to her husband, George W. King. Mrs. King was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Preceding Mrs. King in death were her parents; a brother, Benton Mercer; and two sisters, Elvie Harmon and Lucy Strickland.

Survivors include her husband, George W. King, of Dothan; two daughters, Linda (Lamar) Anderson of Cowarts and Betty Sue (Dennis) Miller of Dothan; granddaughter, Michelle Johns, of Dothan; grandson, Wade Miller, of Dothan; granddaughter, Leslie Withers of Cowarts; great-grandson, Josh Lashley of Dothan; great-granddaughter, Abby Johns, of Dothan; great-granddaughter, Payton Shelton, of Panama City, Fla.; great-granddaughter, Logan Withers of Cowarts; two sisters, Grace Tolar of Ashford and Margaret Phillips of Bainbridge, Ga.; two brothers, Charles Mercer of Ashford and Calvin Mercer of Ashford; goddaughter, Freddie Mae Carter, of Avon; several nieces and nephews.
