Donald E. Briggs passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs, Colorado on July 27, 2021 at the age of 92.

Don was born in Tigertown, Texas on July 10, 1929 to Ervin Delany and Ora Ethel Hudgens Briggs. In 1934, he moved with his parents and four siblings to Dove Creek, Colorado. In 1948, he joined the U.S. Navy and spent four years on the U.S.S. Columbus assigned to the Mediterranean theater based out of England. Don returned home to Durango, Colorado and married Berna Deane Metz Briggs in 1953. He worked as a Durango City police officer then began building bridges with his father-in-law, Albert Metz. This was the foundation of a building career that spanned over five decades. Don was a positive influence to those that knew him, demonstrating the values of honesty, dependability and trustworthiness in his day-to-day life. He was a quiet man who loved his family and enjoyed being out in the open country.

Don was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Berna Deane, and is survived by his three children, Nila (Russell) Stearns of Bakersfield, California, Donald (Sandrina) Briggs of Riga, Latvia, and Jason (Suzanne) Briggs of Colorado Springs, Colorado, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Don always took care of his family and taught them to have a strong work ethic, keep a good sense of humor, and to have compassion for others. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
