Gerald Maxey passed away on December 9, 2020. He was born February 12,1934 in Freeport IL the only child of Charles and Ruth (Bready) Maxey. They moved many times while Charles was promoted with Montgomery Ward & CO. Jerry spent much of his youth in Ridgewood NJ. He graduated in 1952 from New Trier HS in Winnetka IL. He graduated from Culver-Stockton College in Canton MO in 1956 with a BS in Business. He met Jane Williams there and the couple married June 5, 1955. Jerry served in the Army 1956-1958 and was stationed at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, CA in Quartermaster Supply. Jerry joined his parents in operating Hesse's Men's Store in Elmhurst, IL. He was active in the Lion's Club and attended the international convention as a delegate in Atlantic City NJ in 1970. The store was sold in 1972 and in 1974 the family moved to Durango CO. They owned The Sweet Shop from 1974-1977. Jerry also worked for Redfield Co. In 1980 they moved to Tucson AZ to be near his mother, Ruth. In 1996 they moved back to Durango as retirees. The couple enjoyed traveling in the US and Europe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Jane of 62 years.
He is survived by his daughter Julie(Elvis) Iacovetto, sons Greg & Rick(Kirsten) Maxey. Grandchildren Gina & Tony(Tara) Iacovetto and Leena Maxey, and three Great-grandchildren. Jerry leaves behind many close friends and his cousins Stan (Barb) Sowers and Sue (Lee) Anderson. Service to be held Sat. September 18th at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church 1159 E 3rd Ave Durango.
