Robert G. Hardy, Sr.
Robert G. Hardy, Sr. (Bob), age 82 passed away Wednesday, 10 December 2014. He was born 5 December 1932 in Washington, D.C. to Henry Allen Hardy and Mildred Irene Garner. He married Lena Dolores Pectol on 8 November 1952 in Evanston, WY.
Bob moved at a very early age to Florida and was raised in Gulfport, then Orlando. He attended Orlando HS and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949. He was assigned as a Medic to Fort Clayton, Panama in 1950. He was later assigned to the Armed Forces Entry Station in SLC, Utah in 1952. This is where he met his bride of 45 years Lena Dolores Pectol. They were married in Nov 1952.
Bob's Army career took him many places in the world. Just after getting married he was sent off to Korea for the first of five combat tours. He was then assigned in Maryland and then West Germany. Bob was then selected as one of the very first members of the 1st Special Forces Group. He served a total of four tours in Viet Nam, two with the 1st Special Forces Group in the early 60s and one each with the 10st Airborne and the 173rd Airborne. His awards and citations include the Silver Star, The US Army Air Medal, 2 Bronze Stars with "v" devices. He retired in 1969.
Bob later had employment with Rio Vista Oil Co., Ltd as Vice President of Operations. He also owned several small businesses with his wife Dolores.
Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was sealed for time and all Eternity to his wife Dolores and their three children in the Salt Lake Temple in 1970. He loved the Church and served in many callings including as Executive Secretary and home teacher.
Bob is survived by Daughter Jolene Alexanian (Kev), Prineville, OR; Son Robert G. Hardy, Jr. (Tanya), Litchfield Park, AZ and Brother Henry A. Hardy, Jr., Orlando, FL, eight Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Lena Dolores (Dee) Hardy, and his daughter Lisa Gail Hardy.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held in the Old St. George City Cemetery on February 7th at 12:00 noon followed by interment.
