Mrs. Celia Ramirez Lujan, 94, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, in
Phoenix, Arizona, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 3, 1931, in Morenci, Arizona. Celia grew up in a close-knit community where she met her beloved husband, Sixto Lujan, at a local dance. They were married on July 23, 1949, and shared 66 wonderful years together. In 1979, they moved from Morenci to
Safford, Arizona, where they spent many joyful years before relocating to Mesa in 2011. Celia attended Morenci High School and devoted her life to her family, her Catholic faith, and creating a warm and welcoming home. She was known for faithfully praying the rosary and expressing her love through her cooking and baking. Her kitchen was the heart of her home - no one ever left without a warm meal or a sweet treat. Celia especially cherished Christmas and took great joy in baking and delivering treats to neighbors in Safford. She passed down the treasured tradition of tamale-making to younger generations. Her hobbies included fishing (but not camping, as she liked to joke), slow dancing, reading, and coloring. She enjoyed following music, figure skating and television shows such as Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, and The Young & the Restless. Her favorite meal since childhood was red enchiladas. Celia is survived by her children: Becky Murillo (Robert), Viola Ramos, Dalia Chavez (Larry), and Rick Lujan (Brenda); grandchildren: Lorraine Murillo, Julie Sanchez (Danny), Valarie Hatch (Josh), Adrian Ramos (Charley), Jiame Chavez (Sarah), Javier Chavez (Nikki), Tiana Chavez, Danielle Lujan, and Jessica Lujan; great-grandchildren: Adri Ramos, Loren Ramos, Brenda Ramos, Kris Ramos, Malaya Ramos, Gabriel Booth, Ariana Sanchez, Amaya Sanchez, Anthony Sanchez, Mariah Campos (Marcus), Madison Hatch, Mason Hatch, Nyla Chavez, Chloe Borelli, Lucas Chavez, Gwendolyn Chavez, and Jacob Negrete II; and great-great-grandchildren Kira Campos and Everett Fangman. She is preceded in death by her husband Sixto Lujan; her mother Josephina Ramirez; brothers Cruz Ruiz and Joe Ruiz; sister Eloisa Esparza; and grandson Christopher Ramos. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
