J. Middendorf Obituary

J. William "Bill" Middendorf, II, 101, died on Oct. 24, 2025.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Henry and Sarah (Boone) Middendorf. He is survived by two daughters, Frances Middendorf and Dr. Amy Givler (Don); a son, Ralph Middendorf (Sofia); and a daughter-in-law, Jeni Middendorf. He was pre-deceased by Isabelle Jackson Paine, his wife of 63 years, his daughter Martha, and his son John. His seven grandchildren are Martha, Chandler, John, Rowen, Remi, Laila, and Wolfgang. He has four great-grandchildren, two of whom are namesakes of his wife and himself, Isabelle and William.

Bill loved Little Compton since he first saw it on his honeymoon, visiting his new wife's aunt and uncle and cousins. After a long career as a stockbroker, a diplomat, and a banker, he and Isabelle retired to their Little Compton cattle farm, where their family, growing up, had spent every summer.

The family wishes to thank the dedicated, much-beloved helpers who cared for him so well in his final years, including Sarah Montgomery, Aida and Jennifer Camey, and Renee Dion.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. at the United Congregational Church in Little Compton. Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery at a future date.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Little Compton Historical Society at https://littlecompton.org.
