Pastor/ Graphic Illustrator/ Children's Author|Joshua Manuel Alves, 43, of
Bangor, Maine, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 5, 2025. Born in
Bristol, Rhode Island to Manuel Luiz Alves IV and Elsie Marian Alves. Josh is survived by his beloved wife, Amy (Ouellette) Alves and their children: Lilly, Haley, Gabriel, and Emma. He is also survived by his siblings Rebekah Ekekwe (James), Jacob Alves (Jennifer) and Jeremiah Alves (Nadia) as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Josh was a beloved uncle to Ryan, Jadon and Joel.
From an early age, Joshua's life reflected a rare combination of creativity, intelligence, and faith. He attended schools in Bristol and Warren and graduated from Mt. Hope High School in 2000, but his true education came from a heart surrendered to God and a desire to bless the world around him. As an accomplished author and illustrator, he often visited schools, not merely to teach, but to ignite imaginations, inspire courage, and show children that their gifts and stories mattered deeply.
Josh and Amy made their home in Maine for seventeen years, where they faithfully served the church in Bangor and raised their growing family. During this time, Josh also volunteered on the local Street Pastors team in downtown Bangor. Josh held various creative/graphic design positions at the Bangor Daily News, Sutherland Weston Marketing Communications and Blue OX Family Games. Soon after being ordained as a Pastor of the Advent Christian General Conference, the family moved to
Oxford, MA where Josh served as teaching pastor at Oak Hill Bible Church for almost 5 years. Josh also held a certificate in Visual Communications, was a graduate of the Leadership Development Network, and served as a Field Director for the Ministry Training Institute (MTI), investing in the next generation of ministry leaders.
Most recently, Josh and Amy joined a pastoral team serving Bangor Advent Christian Church in
Bangor, Maine. In addition to his ministry at the church, Josh served as a part-time teacher and assistant girls basketball coach at Penobscot Christian School. Josh poured his heart into guiding others to remain anchored in Christ and deeply rooted in God's story, inspiring them to live that story with integrity, courage, and hope each day. With a profound love for Scripture and a discerning awareness of the world around him, he possessed a rare gift for weaving the timeless truths of the Bible into the rhythms of everyday life, gently inviting all who knew him to step into the beauty and purpose of God's Kingdom.
Josh's creativity, compassion, humor, and unwavering faith touched countless lives, from the students he inspired, to the churches he served, to the many people who were blessed by his teaching, art, and friendship.
His passing leaves a deep and lasting void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Crosspoint Church, 1476 Broadway,
