Michael J. Enos, known affectionately as Mike, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Rhode Island Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born on June 23, 1944, in the Fox Point section of Providence, Mike grew up with endless stories of running and playing through the neighborhood streets with his cousins - memories that reflected the joyful, mischievous spirit he carried throughout his life. A lifelong Rhode Islander, his warmth, humor, and gentle wisdom touched everyone who knew him.
Mike was the beloved husband of Janice Henry-Moon, with whom he shared over 26 years of love and adventure since their marriage in 1999. He was the devoted son of the late Joseph and Helen (Vincent) Enos, and was predeceased by his first wife, Rosalee (Gomes) Enos, with whom he shared two daughters. He was a loving father to his three daughters: Desiree Moshier of Johnston, Valerie Carrignan (Scott Carrignan) of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Brianna Moon (Eric Ng) of North Providence. He embraced his role as both father and stepfather with equal dedication, treating each of his girls with the same love and care.
Mike's greatest joy was his family. He adored his grandchildren Destiny Moshier, Alex Carrignan, Bethany Vela, and Juniper Moon-Ng, and was overjoyed to become a great-grandfather to Oliver Vela. Juniper especially adored her ""Grandpa Mike,"" whose creativity, humor, and gentle presence inspired endless giggles and art projects during their time together. His love, humor, and steady guidance will be deeply missed.
Mike attended Hope High School before earning his GED, and went on to receive his Bachelor of Fine Arts from UMass Dartmouth and his Master's Degree in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). A gifted artist, sculptor, and educator, he devoted over 33 years to teaching art at East Providence High School, inspiring generations of students with his creativity and quiet encouragement. After he retired, he worked at Stop & Shop for over a decade, where his dry wit and kind nature made him a favorite among coworkers and customers alike.
A man of intellect, curiosity, and principle - the true Renaissance man, original beatnik, and lifelong socialist - Mike lived with a keen eye for detail and beauty. He was a true antique collector who especially loved Depression-era glass, treasuring each piece as both history and art. Proud of his Portuguese heritage, he served as President of the Cranston Portuguese Club, celebrating the culture, food, and camaraderie he held dear. A passionate Benfica soccer supporter, he never missed a match and loved debating the sport with humor and precision.
An adventurous traveler, Mike once walked the Roman roads of Portugal in a three-piece suit - ever the gentleman and storyteller. He found peace on the water as a member of the Rhode Island Yacht Club, and few things pleased him more than good conversation shared over a glass of red wine or Sambuca.
Mike's legacy continues through his siblings, including his brother Paul Enos and his wife Donna of Carson City, Nevada, and he fondly remembered his late sister Maureen Marshall. He was a proud uncle to several nieces and nephews, all of whom benefited from his wisdom and kindness.
He shared a special bond with his late mother-in-law, Evelyn Henry, spending countless evenings watching television and sipping wine together until her passing five years ago - a simple joy that reflected his loyalty, humor, and love for family. He also shared a deep companionship with his beloved cat Jerry, who passed earlier this year, and his loyal dog Maggie, who remained faithfully by his side.
Mike held a special love for his many cousins and the family's annual reunion, where laughter, storytelling, and connection were always at the heart of his joy.
Those who knew Mike describe him as intelligent, creative, funny, gentle, and endlessly curious - a man whose stories, sculptures, and laughter will live on in every heart he touched.
