Sarah Sturges Obituary

Sarah Howe Sturges was born June 14th, 1958 in Sagamihara Japan. She died in her home in Jackson Wyoming on January 28th of this year surrounded by friends, family, neighbors and her Sangha. An avid lover of nature with a degree in geology, her favorite thing was to take long trips alone into the wilderness.

Her work as a cook accompanying scientific research expeditions took her to the far ends of the earth; Antarctica and the Arctic, where she continued her solo expeditions to be with nature. She was part of the first group to winter over on the Greenland ice sheet during the winter of 1997.

When she was not cooking for work she baked and cooked for neighbors and friends. She worked for many years as a massage therapist in Jackson. Sarah was a voracious reader and loved children. She made beautiful knitted mittens and hats, drawings and watercolors, was an extraordinary writer and also made the best coffee ever.

A memorial was held outside of Jackson on her birthday. She is survived by her sisters Julia and Elizabeth and her nephews Yibekal, Yared and Adrián Tomás.
