Adele Levine Obituary

ADELE FRIDHANDLER LEVINE Longtime educator Adele Levine passed way peacefully in her Fremont home on Tuesday February 5th, just short of her 80th birthday. This loving wife, mother and grandmother nurtured an extensive web of friends and former students scattered throughout the world who remember her as a vibrant, intuitive, efficient, compassionate person who lived life with zest and a spirit of adventure. Adele was born in Montreal, Canada on March 24, 1928 and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1950 to pursue a Master's Degree, where she taught school while attending Case Western Reserve University. Upon graduating, Adele moved to California and taught Government, Civics and World Affairs at San Leandro High School. She married Sam Levine, a fellow teacher, in 1957. Adele taught Secondary Education at Cal State Hayward and then at San Jose State University, and when she retired she was the only non-tenured, non-PhD. to receive emeritus status. Adele is survived by her brother, Sam Fridhandler of Sun City, Florida; her daughters, Taya Levine of Healdsburg and Shana Levine, her son-in law David Giu, and three grandchildren, Mark, Kelly and Lauren Gius of Dixon, California. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, February 10 at 2PM in the Jackson Theatre at Ohlone College in Fremont. In lieu of flowers, Donations in her memory may be sent to: Donation in Memory of Adele Levine George Kato Memorial Fund 5158 Vernon Avenue Fremont, California 94536

My condolescenes to the family. I had been out of touch with Adele for about a year now since she first learned of her health project. I offered my help, but as you know she had to do it her way. Lately, I had been wondering how she had been and I must have intuitively known that she was making her transition. It was very hard to let go of a client of four years who I had gotten to know fairly well. I know that she adored her family and friends very much. Whenever, something was on her mind about her loved ones, she would not hesitate to let me know. It was an honor to get to know her and work on her. May her spirit continue to soar ahead! I miss you Adele! With Love, Tomasa

Hi! I'm Lenore Pfeffer Koppel from Cleveland, a near contemporary of Adele"s. My daughter, Ruth, who lives in San Jose, saw the obit in this morning's paper, called, and then we locaated it on the Internet. I didn't know that Adele was ill, though the last time I saw her was in 2005 or 2006, when I was visiting my family in San Jose. We met for dnner and talked about you girls, the family, etc. I don't think I've ever met either of you. We both were teaching in Cleveland Heights in the 50's; then we both went on and broadened our horizons while still staying in Education. So sorry to learn of Adele's passing. Many condolences.......

My dear friend has moved on with all the grace and poise she showed throughout her life. Those of us who had the special joy of knowing her keep her memory in the landscape of our hearts.
