Alice Mary Walls

1932 - 2022

On Monday, October 17, 2022, Alice Mary Walls passed away at the age of 90. Alice was born on January 1, 1932 in Martinez, CA to John and Angela (McGrath) Fessler. She was married to her husband, Fred Walls for over 60 years.Alice worked at the phone company in Los Angeles but in 1954, while volunteering at the Catholic USO, she met Fred Walls and married in February 1955 before heading to Chicago for Fred's education. They returned to Southern California where they made their home in El Monte and had their first three children (Fred, Mary Alice and Kathy). In 1959, they moved to San Jose for a job change and Alice had two more children (Joe and Thom). She was a wonderful cook and homemaker but liked to experiment on the family with recipes she found in the newspaper. Some were keepers and some were not. After several moves they settled in Walnut Creek in 1972. For almost 30 years their home on Normandy Lane was the gathering place for parties, holidays, and kids returning home from time to time.Alice kept the family clothed, fed and loved and always extended her reach to those who needed family and to be included. Priests, brothers, extended family and friends were always included at the table and in her heart.Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Angela; her husband, Fred; her bothers, Thomas and John Fessler; and her sister, Angela Capobianco. She is survived by her sons, Fredrick, Joseph and Thomas Walls; and her daughters, Mary Alice Robertson and Kathleen Rhodes; sons-in-law Craig Robertson and Robert Rhodes, daughters-in-law Ann and Jeanette Walls; grandchildren, Heidi Kirby, Christopher, Nicholas and Benjamin Robertson; Michael, Sara and Jamie Walls; Will and Sara Pipkin and great-grandchildren Jack and Madeline Kirby; Nora, Franklin and Charlie Robertson; Alaina, Ian, Owen and Conner Pipkin; and Maverick and Penelope Schneider.A rosary and funeral liturgy will be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 10:00 am at Christ The King Catholic Church, Pleasant Hill, California. Her cremains will be interred in a private graveside service at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette, California.
