Ann Pitman Jordan
December 28, 1933 - July 12, 2021
Resident of Castro Valley
Ann Pitman Kilner Jordan passed away peacefully on July 12, 2021 with her family at her side. Ann was a sweet-natured, gentle, and intelligent woman whose sense of fairness and kindness guided her throughout her life. Her family will miss her deeply.
Ann was born in Indianapolis, IN. She spent her very early years in Booneville, IN and grew up in Corpus Christi, TX. She met and married her first husband, Edwin Kilner, there while he was stationed in the Navy. In time she had the opportunity to return to Indianapolis where she enrolled in a nursing program held by Indiana University and Methodist Hospital, graduating as an R.N. She was very proud of her work as a nurse, she loved her patients, and felt privileged to work in the hospital where she was born.
Ann met and later married Ira Jordan, Jr ("Jordan"). They were together for 40 years and retired in 1988, joining Ann's children in the Bay Area, last residing together in Rossmoor, Walnut Creek. Jordan remains deeply missed by the family following his passing in 2009.
Ann was an avid reader, she loved music and world politics, and in her retirement, developed a passion forgathering genealogy data from her Pitman and Johnson lineage. She reached out to resources all over the world and had great success in her research. She was thrilled to have the opportunity to visit Framersheim, Germany to see the town from where the Pitman family emigrated to the U.S. She was welcomed by the local minister and was able to see family records dating back to the 1700's.
Our Mom had her trademarks; she looked adorable in her hats, daily chocolate milk was non-negotiable, ketchup was spicy, and she made amazing applesauce, deviled eggs, and chocolate cake.
Ann is predeceased by her husband, Jordan; her beloved siblings: brothers Hal, Don, Jed, and David Starr Pitman, and sisters Kay Allen and Lyn Tinker; and daughter-in-law Laura Minighini. She is survived by her children Steven Kilner and Jan Walsh (Kevin); 5 grandchildren: Liz Cowles (Ryan), Haley Holman (David Barry), Tressa Holman, Cameron Kilner, and Matthew Kilner; and 5 great-grandchildren: Lauren Halvorson, Taylor Halvorson, and Grace, Chloe, and Chase Cowles.
She was very proud of all her family, enjoyed her many friendships, and delighted in everyone's presence. We will forever miss you and love you, Mom.
Private burial will be in Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, alongside Jordan. In remembrance, the family suggests donations to her favorite charity, The Salvation Army, or Alzheimer's Association
