Anthony Brookman Obituary

Anthony Raymond Brookman Anthony R. Brookman, of Walnut Creek, California, passed away unexpectedly on December 2, 2005. Born in Chicago Illinois on March 23, 1922, Anthony, also known as Tony, grew up in the Midwest during the depression years, and came of age with the advent of WWII. During the war he heroically escorted the men of the Batan Death March to hospital ships, and effectively fought the enemy while heroically leading his men. He ended his career in the Army Air Corp as a Lieutenant, and returned home to complete his education at Northwestern University, receiving his Law degree from Hastings Law School in San Francisco. Having moved his family out to California, he practiced law as a personal injury attorney in Oakland, Walnut Creek, and Sacramento, retiring after forty years of a successful career. Throughout these years, while married to his wife of 20 years, Josephine Hancock Logan, he lovingly helped to raise and inspire his two stepchildren, John Birmingham and Sara Benson, and devoted his time lovingly to children Meri-beth Farmer, Anthony Brook-man, Jr., and his youngest, Lind-say Christensen. In 1970, Tony became an avid and tenaciously loyal fan of the U.S.C. football team, holding six season tickets and attending almost every game until the day he died. It was on his way to see his favorite team, while waiting to board his flight to LA, when he unexpectedly passed away, leaving his family and friends grieving for a man they dearly loved. In 1982, Tony married the love of his life, Marilyn Strickland, and for 23 years lived happily and contentedly, traveling, golfing, dining out, and enjoying a warm and loving companionship. Adding to his extended family, Tony took pleasure in warm and lasting friendships with Marilyn's children, Cheryl and Terry Strickland, Marilyn's brother Mark, and numerous family members. He will be remembered and loved by his eight grandchildren, Megan Patrick, Robert and Alison Farmer, Jennifer, Buddy, and David Brookman, and Alana & Nolan Christensen, to all of whom he gave valuable advice and help with college expenses. His loss will also be deeply mourned by his loving brother, Raymond Brookman. Tony always gave generously of himself, his time, and his finances to any and all, when or if they needed it. He was never one to say 'no' to anyone who was in want, and was the one person in the family whose advice everyone valued. He will be sorely missed by one and all. A Celebration of his life will be held at Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel, Sunday December 11, 2005. Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel 925-934-5400

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Brookman's passing. My mother is Barbara Firey, who worked for "Mr. B" for more than thirty years. I also worked several summers in his Sacramento office and I will always remember him for his tremendous generosity. Mr B invited me, and my friends, to several Forty Niner games at Candlestick and he was always such a wonderful host. I will never forget his kindness. My sincere condolences to Mr. B's family.
