ANTONE PERRY (BUD) DAVILLA 83, of Castro Valley died on January 11, 2003 of an extended illness. He was born January 4, 1920 on the ranch in Eden Canyon. He attended Palomares School, a one-room school house. Perry occasionally rode his horse to school. He attended Hayward High School, graduating in 1937. He remained on the Eden Canyon Ranch for all 83 years of his life. He worked in a foundry for several years before enrolling at Cal Berkeley. He attended Cal for 3 years majoring in Natural Resources and Forestry. In 1942 he joined the Army Air Corp. He was stationed in Europe during World War II, mainly in England and France. He received an honorable discharge in December of 1945. Perry then returned to Eden Canyon and began a ranching partnership with his brother-in-law, Tony Fields. This partnership continued for the next 35 years. On January 28, 1951, Bud married Betty Jeanne Shanks of Pleasanton. They were just a few weeks short of celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary. Perry Davilla is also survived by his son, James and James's fiance, Rachel, her children, Ryan and Shannon. His daughter, Nancy and her son, Andrew and his son, Tony and Tony's wife, Michelle and their three sons, Rhett, Kyle and Luke Davilla. He also leaves his sister, Jeannette Ferguson. Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Virginia Davilla, his sister, Phyllis Fields, 1 niece and 6 nephews. Perry was very involved in a number of agricultural organizations. He served as President of the Alameda County Farm Bureau and was President of the Wool Growers Association. He was also a member of the Alameda-Contra Costa Cattlemen's Association and Rod & Gun Club. Bud was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed being out in the elements enjoying nature. He was a naturalist and knew all the species that inhabited the ranch. His other hobbies included card parties and playing poker with family or nearby ranching neighbors.
