Athanasios T. Polyzos

ATHANASIOS T. POLYZOS Passed away at the age of 70 surrounded by his family at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2003, after a struggle with cancer. Athanasios was born on October 20, 1933 in the village of Grammeny Oxia, Nafpaktias in Greece to Theophanis and Anastasia Polyzos. Athanasios served in the Greek Royal Guard and as an Agrophilica before marrying Konstandia in 1959 and moving to the United States in 1968. He was an active member in the Roumeli Society and enjoyed playing his clarinet for family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Konstandia Polyzos, and their five children, Anastasia and her husband George, Theophanis, George, John and his wife Tina, Panayiota and her husband George. His three grandchildren, Erin, Athanasios, and Maria. His brothers, Demetrios, Christos, Konstandinos, and his two sisters Koula and Eleni, all living in Greece, and his brother John and his family, who live in Oakland. Family and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at 11:00 am at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension, 4700 Lincoln Avenue, Oakland. Trisagion Services, Monday, December 1, 2003, at 7:00 pm, at the Greer Family Mortuary, 2694 Blanding Avenue, Alameda. Visitation, Monday after 4:00 pm at the mortuary chapel. Interment at the Oakmont Memorial Park Cemetery, 2099 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension in Oakland.
