Barbara Livingstone Obituary

Barbara Snyder Livingstone Feb. 12, 1944 - Jan. 9, 2008 Resident of San Ramon Barbara McCrea Snyder Livingstone passed away from a long battle with cancer on January 9th. She is survived by her husband James Livingstone of San Ramon. Born on February 12, 1944 in New Jersey, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1961. The oldest of four children, she is also survived by her sister Nancy Hollenbeck, brother William McCrea, both of Mountain View, and brother Theodore McCrea of Hawaii. Barbara was the loving mother of three children and is survived by her son Robert Snyder of Ben Lomond, daughter Kathleen Corbett of San Ramon and daughter Rebecca Snyder of Emeryville. She was the proud grandmother of Carl & Hannah Snyder and Kaylie & Serenity Corbett. She married James Livingstone in 1996 and welcomed into her family Jim's daughter Kathy, of Brentwood, TN, her husband Steve Tolman, their two daughters Katie & Jenny, his daughter Naomi of Angel's Camp, CA, her husband Eliseo Garcia, and their two children Jennie and Ben and his son Doug, of North Bend, OR. Barbara earned a degree in English and Education, Summa Cum Laude, from San Jose State University in 1965 and taught 3rd grade prior to raising her children. Later, she became the service manager for Pioneer Auto Service in San Ramon where she worked for 25 years. She was a 35-year resident of San Ramon. During a 6 year battle with ovarian cancer, fought with pride, dignity and determination, Barbara was able to enjoy traveling all over the world from Scotland to Tahiti to Ecuador to New Zealand. She was able to devote more time to things that really matter, like enjoying time with her grandchildren, spending time at the ocean with Jim, reading a myriad of books and rooting for the Oakland Athletics. Barbara has relied on the Wellness Community, in Walnut Creek, during these last few years. Her group meetings have given her the chance to be a source of strength and inspiration for the members of her cancer support groups. Her spirit, kindness, and understanding have been an asset to the Wellness Community, as much as, their support and guidance have been a necessity and comfort for her. Barbara always put her family and friends before herself. She has been an inspiration to her family and a model of what strength, love and courage should be. The family would like to thank Kaiser Hospice for their support during these last few weeks of Barbara's life. We will miss her very much. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Joan of Arc in San Ramon on Monday, January 14th at 11:00 am. She requested that people wear bright colors and celebrate her life. A reception will follow in the multipurpose room at St. Joan of Arc. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Wellness Community of Walnut Creek. 3276 McNutt Avenue, Walnut Creek, CA 94597. Hull's Walnut Creek Chapel (925) 934-5400

I was privileged to know Barbara and have a close friendship with Kathy. Though I haven't spoken to them in many years, I often thought fondly of her and her children. My condlences for her family. She will be missed.

TO JIM, ROB, KATHY, BECKY, KATHY T., DOUG AND ALL SPOUSES AND GRANDCHILDREN;
OUR HEARTFELT THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU ALL IN THIS VERY DIFFICULT TIME. PAT & I HAVE KNOWN AND LOVED BARBARA FOR MANY YEARS BOTH IN BUSINESS AND AS A PERSONAL FRIEND. SHE HAS BEEN THE BOSS, THE BIG SISTER, THE MOTHER, THE BEST FRIEND TO US. SHE COULD TRULY DO IT ALL (SOMETIMES ALL AT ONCE). SHE ALWAYS HAD A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND HAS CERTAINLY BEEN AN INSPIRATION TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. SHE TAUGHT ME (PERSONALLY) TO LIVE LIFE ONE DAY AT A TIME AND NOT TO SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF. BARBARA IS ONE OF THE BEST PEOPLE WE'VE EVER KNOWN OR EVER WILL KNOW. SHE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.

Barbara was a very special lady and she will definately be missed. As a young adult, I spent a lot of time at her house and she became a very special person in my life. I am honored to have known her. My prayers are with your family at this difficult time.

I met Barbara at the first Wellness Community Support Group meeting I attended in 2003. As everyone will say, she was an inspiration to us all and added greatly to our group. When I "graduated" from the group, I missed the people I had developed a bond with and we started having lunch together once in awhile. As time went on, we decided to make our lunch a monthly event and for the last few years we have met for lunch on the last Wednesday of the month after the support group meeting. I always looked forward to seeing Barbara there. In addition to our lunches, we met a few times for a "play date" with our grandchildren, as Kaylie and my grandson Kyle, are the same age and they had a great time playing together.

There will always be a spot in my heart for Barbara and the special memories I have of her.

To her family, I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this time of loss.

Sincerely,
