Catherine NUGENT

Catherine M Nugent Resident of Pleasanton ------- Catherine, age 93 years, died 9/20/2010 at Valley Care Hospital in Pleasanton, California, after a brief illness. Private funeral services have been held at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery. Catherine was born in 1917 to Richard M. Nugent and Rebecca (Keppel) Nugent in Gridley, California. After graduating from Gridley High School she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics from Chico State College. She taught for six years in McArthur, California and then moved to Pleasanton in 1944. Catherine then taught at Amador High School until her retirement in 1982. Until her death she received notes, cards and visits from former students. Despite declining health and serious vision problems, Catherine never lost her charming and hospitable nature. Catherine was an avid reader and a wonderful conversationalist who enjoyed travel, dining out with friends and gardening. She was a marvelous cook and seamstress. With the help of dedicated assistants and many wonderful friends she was able to live independently in her home until the time of her death. Catherine attended Center Point Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Presbyterian Women. Although Catherine was an only child, she was the keeper of family history for the Nugent and Keppel relatives. Survivors include cousins Nancy Hosler Zumwalt (Wally) of Oroville, California, and Dr. Michael Nugent (Naomi) of Livingston, Montana. A Memorial Service is planned for October 29th, 2010 at 2:30pm. The Memorial Service will be held at Center Point Presbyterian Church at 3410 Cornerstone Ct., Pleasanton, California.
