Cedric Walter Petersen Jr.

CEDRIC WALTER PETERSEN JR., passed away June 20, 2001 at his home in Piedmont. Born in 1917, a second generation native of Oakland, he graduated from U.C. Berkeley and pursued a 43 year career with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, retiring in 1983 as Pacific Coast Port Engineer. His love of the sea extended to scuba diving and sailing along the California coast. He was a member of the Oakland Yacht Club and a life member of the United States Power Squadrons, where he taught boating safety classes for over 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen, and his sons Alan, of Palo Alto, Donald of Pleasanton and Gordon of Visalia and five grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother Murray of Orinda and his sister Jacqueline Johnston of Oakland as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 9, 2001 at Piedmont Community Church. The family suggests that contributions in lieu of flowers be sent to the Salvation Army, the United States Power Squadrons Education Fund or the Scaife Scholarship Foundation, 1547 Lakeside Drive, Oakland CA, 94612.
