David Williams Obituary

DAVID LINCOLN WILLIAMS On May 14, 2002, five weeks after diagnosis of a brain tumor. Aged 78 years. A life-long resident of Oakland, California. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth, his sister Joan, and his brother Rhys. Survived by twelve nieces and nephews, and scores of devoted family and friends. The son of English and Welsh immigrants, born in Oakland in 1923. A graduate of Oakland Technical High School, and U.C. Berkeley. Recipient of a Purple Heart during World War II, serving in Europe with the U.S. Army. A proud member of the Timberwolves. Author of a self-published history of his service in World War II. Survivor of the Oakland Hills Firestorm of 1991; instrumental in the Rockridge Terrace Homeowners Association. Member of the board of Hiller Highlands Country Club. Consultant for the California Cling Peach Advisory Board. An avid fly fisherman. Retired from a life-time career with Del Monte Foods, where he worked his entire career as a soil scientist and cling peach specialist. In his honor and memory, a scholarship fund has been established to support students studying soil science. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 25, 3 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 2345 Channing Way, Berkeley. Expressions of sympathy may be mailed to the family home. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the U.C. Davis Foundation, designated for the David L. Williams Scholarship Fund, and mailed to Dean's Office, CAES, 1 Shields Avenue, University of California, Davis, CA 95616-8571.

The times we had were brief to visit but Uncle Dave was the special type of person to touch a minute and last a lifetime. We will miss you Uncle Dave!! Love Beth, Larry & the kids

Dave was a special uncle when we were young and was still special when we were older. He made mice out of napkins to fascinate and entertain the youngsters. He shared the secrets of fly fishing and even shared the extra special fishing spots. He will be missed.
