Rev. Fr Domingos Saûde Jaques was born in Goa, India on November 14, 1918. He was the eldest son in a large family. He was preceded in death by his brothers Frank, Rogaciano, Crispin, and Tamaturgo. He is survived by his brother Vincent and his sister Celsa.
He was ordained on October 19, 1947 at Raschol Seminary in the Archdiocese of Goa. He served in four parishes in Goa from December 1947 to November 1956.
He had an opportunity to serve as a missionary during the beginning of the civil war in Angola, Africa, which at the time was a Portuguese colony. He did that with love and dedication from 1956 to 1963. He did not want to leave the people of Angola but was forced to leave when the civil was at its height.
His next journey plotted by the Lord led him to the United States of America. He landed in California in the winter of 1963. The Diocese of Oakland welcomed him and assigned him to his first parish Holy Spirit in Fremont. He continued to serve the people of Hayward, San Pablo, and finally Berkeley. He loved the old and lonely, and would visit them regularly. After retiring in 1995 he moved to Fremont where he passed away peacefully on Feb 18, 2016.
A viewing and rosary will be held at St. James the Apostle Church, 34700 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA, on Friday, February 26, 2016 starting at 12:00 pm, a Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 pm.
