Donald Theodore Markert of Brentwood, California passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at the age of 78. Donald died peacefully with his wife Theresa and children Michael and Kristin by his side.
Donald was born in Berkeley, California on July 15, 1942, to father Theodore Joseph Markert and mother Mable Rose Terry Markert. Donald graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1959 after which he studied Fire Science and began a career with the Kensington Fire Department where he retired as Fire Chief after a 30 year career. Donald met the local bank teller Theresa Marie Meskauskas, and they married January 30, 1982. After retiring from the Fire Department, Donald worked as the Facilities Manager for Ladbroke Racing for 14 years.
Donald was dedicated to his community through various organizations such as Rotary, Relay for Life, DeMolay, Freemasons, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Order of the Eastern Star, Aahmes Shriners and other various Masonic Organizations.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister Jean Markert Needham. He is survived by his wife Theresa Marie Markert; sister Anne Markert Burcell, children Susan Leigh Markert Garth (Tony), Michael David Markert (Kellea), Joseph Donald Markert (Jessma) and Kristin Marie Markert Frost (Daniel); grandchildren Kelley, Courtney, Brannan, Skyler, Josalyn, Aubrey, Anna, Eleanor and Julia.
A Celebration of Life and Services for Donald is planned for Saturday July 31, 2021, at 10am. The services and lunch to follow will be at the Richmond Masonic Hall on 5050 El Portal Ave, El Sobrante, California. All are invited to attend.
People wishing to honor Donald and his lifelong commitment to family and community can make donations to the California Fire Foundation or American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
